Tutoring
Program Overview
Walatowa High Charter School Tutoring Program provides in-person, and virtual tutoring for an individual or small group (3-4 students) and promotes academic success by focusing intently on providing individualized instruction and building strong relationships with students. During a typical tutoring session, tutors will work with up to four (4) students at a time. Tutors (WHCS Instructors or contractors) will implement the WHCS academic curriculum to foster academic success and help students reach their goals. In addition to offering academic support, tutors (WHCS Instructors or Contractors) also serve as student advocates and mentors to build strong, meaningful relationships with WHCS students.
Tutoring Requirement:
WHCS students will no longer receive letter grades of “F, D, and/or zeros,” on any assignment or WHCS Instructor-made assessments. Students will no longer have the option not to turn in work. “I” means that missing assignments are INCOMPLETE and a grade will not be given until missing assignments are completed. Students must receive 70% or better on all coursework assigned and assessments.
WHCS instructors will communicate to the students the importance of re-doing assignments and assessments to meet standard-based requirements and at/or above proficiency levels. Parents/guardians of students who are receiving “I”s will be contacted and their assistance will be solicited with their children’s academic responsibilities. Failure to adhere to this school-wide initiative will prevent students from advancing to the next grade level until assignments are complete.
